Summer Camps a Plenty for Kids in Visakhapatnam
VISHAKHAPATNAM: Summer vacations are a cherished memory for many adults. They fondly remember their childhood's long, school-free days. They spent long hours playing, went on a life-changing trip or just enjoyed mangoes.
Today's kids too deserve such memorable summers. Fortunately, plenty of summer camps are available in Visakhapatnam, from trekking to experiencing spiritual uplift.
ISKCON Visakhapatnam is organising a Residential Summer Camp, which includes yoga, meditation, dance, philosophy, music, sloka recitation, storytelling from scriptures like Mahabharata and Ramayana, aerobics and more. The camp is open to children aged 12 years to 19 years.
Neha Das, the spiritual guru at ISKCON, says, “This initiative mainly focuses on keeping the child away from cell phones.”
Indira Gandhi Zoological Park is organising a summer camp in collaboration with Wildlife Conservation Through Research and Education (WCTRE). The camp will feature bird watching, guided tours of the zoo, and a visit to the zoo’s veterinary hospital.
Wilded, a team of dedicated nature educators, is offering a summer camp that combines fun and learning. Children can engage in activities, such as nature journaling, exploring marine life, planting trees, moulding clay, and collecting rocks. They can go on field trips to biodiversity hotspots in and around the city.
The camp's unique feature is nocturnal walks in Simhachalam Hills on weekends, providing a one-of-a-kind learning experience.
Manjari Agraharapu has noticed a growing interest in pottery in the city over the past year. At her studio Mattikathalu, beginners start by creating basic cylindrical forms and then progress to making cups and more complex shapes.
Manjari told Deccan Chronicle, "I present soft clay to children and encourage them to create their own crafts based on their ideas. When they seek inspiration from their cell phones, I urge them to rely on their imagination instead."
Vishwanadh Sports Club, located at the Port Stadium, offers a summer camp tailored for children of all ages. The camp offers a mix of indoor and outdoor sports, art, music, dance, and more.
