Jaipur Man Dupes US Woman for Artificial Jewellery

Hyderabad: An American Woman, Cherish has been scammed by a shopkeeper into paying Rs 6 crore for artificial jewellery, which costs only Rs 300, in Johri Bazaar at Jaipur, Rajasthan.

According to a report, the US Woman had paid a staggering amount for many pieces of jewelry, purchased from that shop.
The swindle was exposed when Cherish displayed the pieces at an exhibition in the US in April this year. She rushed to India to confront the business owner, known as Gaurav Soni, after realizing she had been tricked, according to NDTV.
The woman filed a complaint with Jaipur Police and also asked the US embassy for assistance.
In her complaint, she told police how she first connected with Soni on Instagram in 2022. She purchased multiple items of jewelry from him during a two-year period. She purchased the trinkets at more than Rs 6 crore, thinking she was purchasing genuine gold pieces. Reports, however, indicate that the true worth of the fake jewelry is around Rs 300.
Together with his father Rajendra Soni, Gaurav Soni is now trying to escape. Searches to find the father-son duo are underway. In the meantime, a person was arrested who was accused of providing authenticity certificates for the fake jewelry.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police North Bajrang Singh Shekhawat said, “Investigations have revealed that the accused sold silver jewelry with gold polish, valued at Rs 300, to the foreigner for Rs 6 crore. They also provided her with a certificate of authenticity. Nand Kishore, who issued the fake certificate, has been arrested, and a search is underway for the absconding father and son.”
