Kolkata: A female junior doctor was found dead with multiple injuries and torn clothes under mysterious circumstances at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital in the city on Friday morning, triggering a massive protest by her fellows.
The deceased was a second-year post graduate trainee (PGT). She was on-duty on Thursday night and had dinner with her fellows after 12 am on Friday but went missing later. At around 11.30 am, her lifeless body was recovered from the seminar hall on the third floor of the emergency department building.
Her cellphone, laptop and broken glasses were also found. Her colleagues alleged that she was raped and murdered. They have launched a ceasework in protest. State health secretary N S Nigam and Kolkata police commissioner Vineet Goyal visited the hospital for a probe. A magisterial inquest will be conducted on the body.
Chief minister Mamata Banerjee called up the victim's family later. “The CM assured us of providing all types of assistance,” said the father of the PGT. Her mother recalled that her daughter had called her up at around 11.30 pm on Thursday and informed her of ordering dinner. BJP and SUCI workers also demonstrated at the hospital.
