Lok Sabha Results 2024: Union Ministers Who Lost Elections

On June 4, Lok Sabha Election results were announced and some of the Union ministers of the previous NDA government faced defeat which included big names like Smriti Irani, Rajeev Chandrashekaran, Arjun Munda Ajay Mishra Teni and Kailash Choudhary.

Smriti Irani

Smriti Irani held portfolios in the previous NDA government such as the Ministry of Women and Child Development and the Ministry of Minority Affairs. She lost to Congress candidate Kishori Lal Sharma from Amethi with a margin of 1,67,196 votes.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar

The Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology lost to Congress' Shashi Tharoor from Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram with a margin of 16,077 votes.

Arjun Munda

The Union Minister of Tribal Affairs lost to Congress candidate Kali Charan Munda with a margin of 1,49,675 votes from Khunti in Jharkhand.

Ajay Mishra Teni

Ajay Mishra, Union Minister of State of Home Affairs, was defeated by Samajwadi Party's Utkarsh Verma in Uttar Pradesh's Kheri by over 34,329 votes.

Kailash Choudhary

Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare contested in Rajasthan's Barmer and finished third, trailing by 4.17 lakh votes. Congress candidate Ummeda Ram Beniwal emerged victorious.

Some of the other ministers include V Muraleedharan, the Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs, who lost in Kerla's Attingal.

Mahendra Nath Pandey, Union Minister of Heavy Industries, lost in Uttar Pradesh's Chandauli. Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution, lost to Samajwadi Party's Uttam Patel in Uttar Pradesh's Fatehpur.

Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, L Murugan lost to DMK's Andimuthu Raja in Tamil Nadu's Nilgiris by a margin of 2,40,585 votes.

Cabinet Minister RK Singh lost to CPI(ML)'s Sudama Prasad in Bihar's Arrah with a margin of 59,808 votes.
