Addressing a gathering, PM Modi said that during the Maha Kumbh, millions of pilgrims from diverse states and backgrounds converge at the Sangam, symbolizing the essence of national unity. “This is why I believe the ‘Maha Kumbh’ is a ‘Mahayagya’ of unity. Every form of discrimination is sacrificed here, and the pilgrims who take a holy dip represent a vibrant image of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshta Bharat,’” the Prime Minister said.
Recalling his own dip in the Sangam during the previous Kumbh, Modi highlighted the significant infrastructural improvements being made for devotees. He mentioned the development of the Hanuman Corridor, the Akshayvat Corridor for easier pilgrim access, and the ongoing redevelopment project of Saraswati Koop. He called the Maha Kumbh a “living identity” of India’s spiritual legacy, faith, and culture, symbolizing a divine confluence of religion, knowledge, devotion, and art.
Quoting a Sanskrit shloka, the Prime Minister noted that a single dip at the Sangam is akin to visiting countless pilgrimages, and emphasized that the eternal flow of faith in the Kumbh tradition has remained unbroken despite changes in rulers and eras, including during British colonial rule. “Kumbh represents the consciousness of the inner soul, drawing people from all corners of India,” he said.
Modi also underlined the government’s efforts in enhancing the country’s cultural and religious heritage through initiatives like the Swadesh Darshan and PRASAD schemes, and the development of various tourist circuits, including the Ramayana, Krishna, Buddhist, and Tirthankar Circuits. He cited the grand Ram Mandir project in Ayodhya as an example of how improved facilities are elevating pilgrimage sites.
Among the projects inaugurated was the “Sah’AI’yak” Chatbot, an AI-based platform to assist devotees attending the Maha Kumbh. Prior to the public meeting, the Prime Minister performed a ceremonial puja and darshan at the holy Sangam and took a river cruise.
Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath accompanied PM Modi during the visit. The 2025 Maha Kumbh Mela, scheduled from January 13 (Paush Poornima) to February 26 (Maha Shivratri), is held every 12 years in Prayagraj and is regarded as one of the largest religious gatherings in the world.
