Maharashtra Government Announces ‘Temples of Constitution’ in Its Technical Institutes

Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has announced that it will establish ‘Temples of Constitution’ across 419 government-run Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and 163 government technical schools to educate students about the importance and sanctity of the Constitution. These temples will be inaugurated online on the occasion of August 15, the Independence Day, state minister of skill development Mangal Prabhat Lodha said.

“Constitution Temples will be established in all ITIs and technical colleges in Maharashtra and through these temples, B.R. Ambedkar’s thoughts will be spread,” Mr. Lodha said.

According to the minister, the temples will host debates, seminars and discussions on issues such as Constitutional amendments, the role of the Constitution in contemporary society and more. These activities are designed to help students comprehend their Constitutional rights and responsibilities.

Furthermore, legal aid and support will be provided to students keen on understanding or exercising their constitutional rights. To enhance students’ knowledge, essay competitions and related events will be organized, and resources such as books and articles on various aspects of the Constitution will be made available, he added.

They will host various monthly programs, including workshops to educate students about Constitutional provisions. Additionally, campaigns will be organized to raise awareness among citizens, particularly marginalized communities, about their constitutional rights and duties, Lodha said.

The decision to establish the constitution temples in ITIs and technical colleges was taken to commemorate the Social Justice Day, which is celebrated on June 26 across Maharashtra, he added.
