Man Tries Hand at Robbery to Feed Family
Hyderabad: Mohd Zubair, a 23-year old car mechanic from Ellamabanda, resorted to robbery due to overwhelming family responsibilities. Zubair, who works in Nizampet, is the sole provider for his elderly parents and four sisters.
Despite his efforts, Zubair’s earnings were insufficient to cover the expenses of his family and his car, bought which was bought on EMIs. Struggling with the financial burden, Zubair resorted to commit crime. Initially he thought of robbery but later segued to chain snatching for easy money.
On May 15, Zubair spotted a 47-year-old woman in a park near KPHB. He snatched her gold chain and fled the scene. However, police tracked him down through CCTV footage and arrested him. During interrogation, Zubair confessed to the crime and spoke of his financial situation.
A senior officer said 47 of young people between the ages of 20 and 30 years with heavy family responsibilities, are driven to crimes like robbery and theft to make money, while 56 per cent inadvertently get involved in drug dealing, said a senior police officer.
The trend of young people engaging in criminal activities has been increasing in recent years, said Madhapur DCP Dr G. Vineeth. “It's disheartening to see youngsters involving in criminal activities. We are working towards this trend and request people to report crimes to police,” he said.
