Mild Tremor Jolts Odisha’s Kalahandi; No Damage Reported

Bhubaneswar, April 29: A mild earthquake, measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale, struck Odisha’s Kalahandi district on Tuesday evening, triggering brief panic among residents.

According to preliminary reports, the tremor was felt at around 7:42 pm, prompting people to rush out of their homes as a precaution. While the sudden jolt caused anxiety across the district, there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to property.

Tremors were experienced in several parts of Kalahandi, including Bhawanipatna, Junagarh, Kesinga, Dharamgarh, Jaipatna, Narla and M. Rampur. Residents reported feeling a noticeable shake lasting a few seconds.

The impact was also felt in adjoining districts, suggesting the tremor covered a relatively wide area. In all, people in 13 blocks and four urban local bodies of the district reported experiencing the quake.

Officials said the situation is being closely monitored, and assessments are underway to rule out any potential damage.
