Modi Proposes IMPACT Framework to Boost Global Connectivity and Trade

At the G7 Summit, PM Narendra Modi calls for a new partnership combining G7 resources, India's talent and Global South participation

New Delhi: At the G7 Summit in Evian, France, on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed bringing together the capital of the G7, the talent of India and the ownership of countries across the Global South to establish the International Mobilisation Partnership for Accelerating Connectivity and Trade (IMPACT).

He said the initiative could create corridors connecting trade, technology, energy and opportunity.
Pointing out that developed countries were facing the challenge of ageing societies, while India and other Global South countries had immense young talent, enterprise and skills, Modi proposed a Global Skills Partnership to promote skill mapping and trusted skilled mobility.
Addressing the G7 Outreach Session on “Reviving a Balanced, Shared and Sustainable Economic Growth for All,” Modi flagged the concerns of developing countries. He said disruptions to fuel, fertiliser and food supply chains caused by the West Asia crisis would continue to affect the Global South.
“If we are truly committed to strengthening international solidarity, the most vulnerable countries should not be left to bear the burden of these crises alone,” he said. He urged international financial institutions to develop support mechanisms to help developing countries absorb such shocks and sustain economic resilience.
“Today, the question of growth is not limited to GDP or trade figures alone. The real question is: who benefits from this growth? Who is included in it? And what direction is it taking?” Modi said.
The Prime Minister also referred to the proposed India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), describing it as a historic strategic corridor connecting Asia, the Middle East and Europe. He said it would accelerate trade, strengthen supply chains and create new opportunities for investment, employment and innovation.
Drawing inspiration from the IMEC vision, Modi said similar connectivity projects could be taken up with countries in Africa, Latin America and the Pacific Island region. He said such initiatives should be based on local ownership, transparent financing and long-term sustainability.
Praising France’s G7 presidency, Modi said he was pleased that it had given importance to inclusive and sustainable growth. He said the message from the forum was important for the well-being and future of humanity at a time when the world was facing several challenges and uncertainties.
Speaking about India’s development model, Modi said India’s experience showed that shared development could be turned from aspiration into reality.
“When India progresses, one-sixth of humanity progresses with it. India’s growth story is not just about economic development; it is a story of inclusion, scale and democratic empowerment,” he said.
He said India had followed the principle of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas” over the past 12 years, adding that it also guided India’s global engagement.
Modi said India’s G20 presidency had shared the message of “One Earth, One Family, One Future” with the world, reflecting India’s civilisational belief that the world is one family.
He said India’s commitment to shared global prosperity was reflected not only in words but also in action. India had concluded trade agreements with most countries represented at the meeting, he said.
“This reflects India’s belief not in fragmentation, but in integration; not in protectionism, but in partnership; and not in uncertainty, but in shared prosperity,” Modi said.
He assured the gathering that India would continue to work with all partners to strengthen shared economic resilience and build a more stable, reliable and prosperous global economy.
