New Delhi: A day after exit polls predicted a sweeping victory for the BJP and just hours after completing his meditation retreat in Kanyakumari, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was back in the national capital, chairing a series of crucial meetings.
On Sunday, Modi stressed the importance of regular fire and electrical safety audits in hospitals and other public places as he reviewed the current heat wave situation in the country. Recent fire incidents have claimed numerous lives, prompting this urgent focus.
Modi also led a meeting addressing the aftermath of Cyclone Remal, particularly in the northeastern states, and another to discuss the 100-day agenda for the new government, set to be sworn in after the Lok Sabha results are announced on June 4.
During the heat wave review meeting, Modi was briefed by officials that, according to IMD forecasts, the heat wave is expected to persist in parts of Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh. The monsoon is predicted to be normal to above normal in most parts of the country but below normal in parts of Peninsular India.
In this meeting, Modi directed that regular fire prevention and response drills be conducted and that hospitals and other public places undergo consistent fire and electrical safety audits. He also highlighted the importance of maintaining fire lines in forests and effectively utilising biomass.
The Prime Minister was informed about the efficacy of the “van agni” portal for the timely identification and management of forest fires.
In the meeting focused on Cyclone Remal, Modi was briefed on the cyclone's impact on the affected states, including the loss of lives and damage to properties in Mizoram, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, and Tripura. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been deployed to carry out evacuations, airlifting, and road clearance operations. The Union home ministry is maintaining regular contact with the state governments.
Modi assured that the Union government will continue to provide full support to the cyclone-affected states and instructed the home ministry to monitor the situation closely and provide necessary assistance for restoration efforts.
Additionally, the Prime Minister chaired a meeting to review preparations for World Environment Day on June 5 and another to finalise the 100-day agenda for the incoming government.
