MP: 4 Killed, 10 Others Missing As Cruise Boat Capsizes In Reservoir

According to the press release, tickets were issued for 29 passengers for the cruise in the boat.

Bhopal: At least four people were killed and ten others reported missing as a cruise boat capsized in the Bargi reservoir on the Narmada River in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur district on Thursday evening, officials said.

“Death of four people has been confirmed, while 15 people were rescued alive. Search and rescue operation has been launched on war footing to save others”, a press release issued by the state public relations department late in the evening, said.

According to the press release, tickets were issued for 29 passengers for the cruise in the boat.

Sources said that those rescued alive included the captain of the boat.

All the passengers in the boat were wearing life jackets, official sources said.

Bargi city superintendent of police Anjula Mishra said that the boat sank due to the sudden gale accompanied by thunderstorms that hit the area in the evening.

Chief minister Mohan Yadav expressed grief and shock over the tragic death of four passengers in the cruise boat and said that a rescue and search operation has been launched in the reservoir to save other passengers.

Jabalpur district collector and local superintendent of police rushed to the spot to oversee rescue and search operation.

The state disaster response force (SDRF) team has been deployed in the operation, officials said.
