MP: Campaign for Amarwara by-election gains momentum, BJP candidate files nomination

Bhopal: Campaigning for the July 10 by-election to Amarwara Assembly constituency has gained momentum with BJP candidate and three-time MLA Kamlesh Shah filing nomination for the seat on Tuesday.

Mr Shah filed the nomination in the presence of Madhya Pradesh chief minister Mohan Yadav and state BJP president Vishnu Dutt Sharma.

Amarwara Assembly constituency which falls under Chhindwara Lok Sabha seat had given massive lead to BJP in the outgoing LS polls in Chhindwara leading the saffron outfit to win the LS seat after 44 years.

Chhindwara LS constituency had been held by the family of Congress veteran and former chief minister Kamal Nath for the last 44 years.

“Amarwara Assembly segment played a major role in the BJP’s recent victory by over one lakh votes in the LS polls from Chhindwara.

Mr Shah is associated with BJP now and we will take all possible measures for the development of this constituency”, Mr Yadav said.

Mr Shah switched over to BJP from Congress a few weeks before the April-May LS polls.

Congress has also started the process of finalising the candidate for the by-election to Amarwara.

“The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) has sent a panel of four names to the AICC for scrutiny. The party may declare its candidate for the by-election in a day or two”, Congress spokesman here K K Mishra told this newspaper.

According to him, Mr Nath is set to lead the campaign for the party in the by-election.

Gondwana Gantantra Party (GGP), a tribal outfit, has already announced its candidate for the by-election.
