Bhopal: The meeting between Union home minister Amit Shah and Madhya Pradesh chief minister Mohan Yadav, held at Delhi on Saturday, has sparked speculations on the selection of new president of the state unit of BJP.

Mr. Yadav held discussions with Mr. Shah on issues related to Madhya Pradesh including the impending election of new president of state BJP, a senior functionary of the party told this newspaper on Saturday, unwilling to be quoted.

“I met Union home minister (Mr. Shah) and president Draupadi Murmu (separately) in Delhi on Saturday...... I have invited them to Madhya Pradesh”, Mr. Yadav said.

“The Central BJP leadership may declare names of presidents of the party in some states anytime after March 24 when the three-day Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha (ABPS) meeting of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) being held in Bengaluru is scheduled to end”, the BJP leader who is in the know of the matter said.

Senior party leaders including BJP national president J P Nadda are busy in the meeting and will be free after March 24 to resolve the issue, he added.

Sources disclosed to this newspaper that names of several prospective candidates for the post of state BJP president cropped up during the meeting between Mr. Shah and Mr. Yadav.

Many veteran BJP leaders of the state including the incumbent in the post have been vying for the post since the last couple of months.

State BJP president Vishnu Dutt Sharma is said to be the front runner in the race for the post, sources added.

Other senior leaders who have thrown their hats into the ring included former minister Narottam Mishra, former MLA Hemant Khandelwal, sitting MLA Rameshwar Sharma and Union minister Virendra Kumar Khatik.
