Nagpur Couple Dies by Suicide on Wedding Anniversary
A couple in Nagpur, Maharashtra, reportedly died by suicide on their 28th wedding anniversary, police confirmed on Tuesday. The man, aged 56, and his wife, 45, were found dead in their residence in the Martin Nagar locality early in the morning. Preliminary investigations indicate that financial hardships might have driven the couple to take such a drastic step. Additionally, their childlessness has been cited as another possible source of emotional distress.
Before their deaths, the couple is believed to have recorded a video on their mobile phone, which they uploaded to social media and sent to their relatives. Upon receiving the video, the couple’s relatives rushed to their home, only to discover their lifeless bodies. A case of accidental death has been filed, and further investigations are underway to understand the circumstances that led to this tragic incident.
Video, Social Media Updates, and Suicide Notes
In a shocking twist, the couple had updated their social media status with a farewell message before their deaths. Along with the video, they had also uploaded two suicide notes. One note, written informally on stamp paper, outlined their final wishes, including an appeal to family members to ensure the smooth distribution of their properties. Both notes held no one responsible for their actions and emphasised that the decision to end their lives was personal.
One of the individuals in the video, presumably Anne, spoke emotionally, asking her family to take care of their children and wishing them luck. Her tone conveyed a sense of finality. Relatives were left in disbelief as the couple had just celebrated their anniversary moments before the tragic event unfolded. They had even cut their anniversary cake at the stroke of midnight.
Authorities are still puzzled by the couple’s actions, as no clear motive for the suicide has been revealed. The tragic event has left the local community in shock, especially since the couple’s anniversary was expected to be a time of celebration.
Funeral and Family’s Final Wishes
According to theiw wish the couple was buried together in a shared coffin at the Jaripatka Catholic cemetery on Tuesday evening. This marked a poignant end to their lives, as they had requested to be buried hand in hand, wearing the same attire they wore during their wedding day 28 years ago.
Financial Struggles and Profession
Jeril, the man in the couple, had previously worked as a chef at various top hotels but had stopped working during the pandemic and did not return to his job. Family sources mentioned that Jeril had also been lending money at interest rates. Anne, his wife, had been a homemaker.
It is understood that Anne’s last social media status, posted at 5:47 am, was noticed by a relative, who then alerted the family. Police were called to the scene, and initial investigations suggest no foul play. The bodies were sent for autopsy at Mayo Hospital before being handed over to the family for the funeral. The police have registered a case of accidental death and will send the couple’s mobile phones to the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory for further analysis.
This tragic incident sheds light on the potential pressures caused by financial strain, emotional struggles, and the need for mental health support during tough times. Authorities urge individuals facing similar challenges to seek help before resorting to such extreme measures.
