No Flooding in Chennai Hereafter: CS
Chennai: There would be no floods in Chennai even if the city received up to 20 cm of rain during the coming monsoon season as the work on the construction of the water drainage system had been almost completed, Chief Secretary Shiv Das Meena said on Saturday.
Meena, who inspected the ongoing work along with Chennai Corporation Commission J Radhakrishnan, told the media that the efforts to prevent water stagnation during rains was now being undertaken with several stakeholders like Highways and Water Resources departments and the Corporation.
Work, taken up in places like Chennai, Coimbatore and Madurai, would be completed by September, ahead of the onset of the monsoon season.
To question the damage to standing crops by the rains, the Chief Secretary said that the district Collectors had been urged to look into it and come up with reports.
