Odisha: CM Mohan Majhi to hold his first public meeting at Bargarh on Tuesday
Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s new chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi will hold his first public meeting at Bargarh on Tuesday. The meeting will chiefly be attended by farmers of Bargarh and its adjoining districts such as Bolangir, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda and Sonepur.
The CM’s Bargarh trip coincides with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public meeting at Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh where the PM will release the 17th installment of PM Kisan Nidhi Samman Yojana to 9.30 crore farmers.
“We are going to Bargarh on Tuesday where the CM will address the farmers of Western Odisha. Bargarh is the rice bowl of our state. In our election manifesto we have promised to procure paddy from farmers at Rs 3100 per quintal. The farmers of Bargarh and the adjoining areas will join the meeting. The CM will release PM Kisan Nidhi Samman assistance to some farmers there,” said Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singdeo.
Pradeep Bag, a farmer of Bargarh, said the local peasants supported the BJP in the recently held Lok Sabha and Odisha Legislative Assembly elections as the saffron party promised Rs 3100 minimum support price (MSP) per quintal of paddy and now they are happy to learn that the CM’s is visiting the region to interact with them.
“Agriculture is our principal occupation and paddy is the main crop that sustains us. The BJP has promised us to hike the paddy MSP to Rs 3100 per quintal. The CM is coming to our district and we hope he will announce some more benefits for us,” said Bag.
Stating that farmers are filling the granaries of the country, Deputy CM Singhdeo said agriculture and farmers have been the top priority of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and as the Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi.
The Kisan Samman Nidhi is a central sector scheme launched on February 24, 2019 to supplement the financial needs of all land-holding farmers subject to certain exclusion criteria of higher income status.
