RG Kar hospital doctor's Parents move Calcutta HC seeking fresh probe into rape, murder

Kolkata: Parents of the young doctor, who was raped and murdered while on-duty at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital (RGKMCH) on August 9, moved the Calcutta High Court against the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday, seeking a fresh probe into the gruesome crime on their daughter.
Accusing the CBI of destruction of evidence in the case, they filed an appeal which stated their dissatisfaction with the probe. The plea was heard by Justice Tirthankar Ghosh of the HC. The judge later ordered for the CBI's inclusion in the plea and also directed it to submit its response.
The next hearing on the petition has been scheduled for December 24 before which the CBI will have to submit its response. The victim's lawyer said later that a fresh probe has been sought since many other accused were yet to be arrested by the CBI in the case.
Reacting to the development Trinamul Congress leader Sovandeb Chatterjee said, “If they have told the HC about their dissatisfaction with the probe, whatever the judge will order will be acceptable. When chief minister Mamata Banerjee sought seven days’ time from them for justice, they didn't wait. Now the CBI made only a few arrests in the case.”
The move by the victim's family came after the additional chief judicial magistrate of the Sealdah Court granted bail to former principal of RGKMCH Dr Sandip Ghosh and former officer-in-charge of the Tala police station Abhijit Mondal in the case on December 13. They were granted bail as the CBI had failed to file chargesheet them within the 90-day statutory period.
Earlier, the victim's parents had approached the Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari and also joined protests organised by the West Bengal Junior Doctors Front.
