Mumbai: Mumbai police’s Cyber Cell has rejected YouTuber Samay Raina’s request to record his statement via videoconferencing in connection with the ‘India’s Got Latent’ controversy. Ranveer Allahabadia has also been issued a fresh summons and asked to appear before the police on February 24.
Raina had informed the police that he will not be able to return to India before March 17 due to prior commitments, therefore his statement should be recorded via videoconferencing. He is currently in the US. However, the Cyber has asked him to appear in person on Tuesday.
The cyber police issued fresh summons to social media influencer Ranveer Allahbadia over his obscene remarks during the YouTube show. He was summoned twice before, but he did not turn up claiming that he had been receiving death threats.
Allahbadia, also known as BeerBiceps, stoked row with his crass remarks at Raina’s show ‘India’s Got Latent’ as a panelist wherein he was heard asking a contestant, “Would you rather watch your parents have sex for the rest of your life, or would you join in once and stop it forever?”
A video of the remark went viral, triggering a massive outrage from viewers and public figures. Many criticised the content as insensitive and inappropriate. Subsequently, Raina has removed all episodes of ‘India’s Got Latent’ from his YouTube channel. Allahbadia has also apologised for his “lapse in judgment.” Allahbadia has tendered an apology for his remarks.
The police has summoned at least 50 people in connection with its probe into the controversy. Those who have been asked to join the investigation included the guests and participants of the popular show.
