Revanth’s padayatra stirs up a new storm

Hyderabad: Within days after Digvijaya Singh tried to trouble-shoot the crisis within TPCC, the issue of Haath Se Haath Jodo yatra to be led by TPCC chief A. Revanth Reddy, and slated to begin from January 26, has stirred up a new storm.

Even as there is a talk that Revanth Reddy’s padayatra would start from Bhadrachalam, part of erstwhile Khammam district, party seniors have termed this as instance where ‘unilateral decision’ by the former was being passed off as ‘a collective decision’ of PCC.

According to party sources, there is no information on this but Revanth Reddy’s ‘inner circle’ supported the idea of him beginning the padayatra. Interestingly CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, the Khammam-based leader, and other seniors were reportedly not taken into confidence, let alone the political affairs committee (PAC) meeting on the padayatra proposal.

“Bhatti is crying foul as he was not informed about this. What more can be said when an important leader is kept in the dark particularly when the yatra starts from his district. I wonder what difference Digvijay Singh’s visit has made to one’s attitude,” said a senior leader.

The leader pointed out that following news reports in vernacular papers, there is once again disquiet among those who had earlier raised objections about ‘unilateral decisions’.

“It is being said that Revanth Reddy revealed his idea of starting the yatra from Bhadrachalam to those who are close to him. There was no talk of a PAC meeting over the important political move in the election year, while other states are deliberating (on Haath-Se-Haath Jodo yatra),” the leader added.

The 22-member PAC was constituted in December, which has Manickam Tagore (AICC in-charge) as its chairman. But debate over the newly constituted committees snowballed into a major controversy widening the differences between the leaders. The PAC is yet to conduct its first meeting, even as the election year begins.
