Congress questions pending super-speciality hospital

Hyderabad: The Congress took on the state government over its election manifesto promise of constructing a super-speciality hospital in Kothapet, at the site where a fruit market operated.

AICC programme implementation committee chairman A. Maheshwar Reddy and PCC working president M. Anjan Kumar Yadav made a spot check on Saturday, following which they released a chargesheet as part of the ‘Haath Se Haath Jodo’ campaign.

A former MLA, wishing not to be named, said: “It has been close to a year since the foundation stone was laid, but not even a speck of soil has been removed. Harish Rao, what is your answer to the people of the state?”

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao laid the foundation stone for a hospital in Kothapet last April, besides two other hospitals at Erragadda and Alwal.

The Congress leader said: “As per the standards, health should get eight per cent of the funds from the Budget, but the government, in the previous budget, earmarked only 4.4 per cent. It is high time that the BRS government adheres to norms.”
