Pudukkottai: Politicos rally against hydrocarbon project
Pudukkottai: The villagers’ struggle against the hydrocarbon project at Neduvasal and its surrounding villages in Pudukkottai district entered its 13th day on Tuesday, with the support of various political parties including the MDMK, People Welfare Alliance consisting of the CPI, CPI(M), VCK and other like-minded organisations.
Activists held demonstrations in support of the cause. Tamil Nadu Congress President S Thirunavukkarasar also visited Neduvasal village, met the agitators and assured the Congress party’s support for the common cause.
Meanwhile, residents of more than 50 villages hoisted black flags on their houses and public places of their villages. Villagers had a sit-in strike at a common place of the village. Young mothers carrying infants also took part in the agitation.
Police made elaborate security arrangements in and around Neduvasal village and allowed vehicles entering the village only after a thorough check up. College students boycott class, protest hydrocarbon project.
Students of Rajah Serfoji College and members of the Students Federation of India boycotted classes and staged a dharna in front of the college in support of the anti-hydrocarbon project agitation by villagers of Neduvasal in Pudukottai district, here on Tuesday. G.Aravindsamy, district secretary of SFI led the agitation. Honest Raj, town secretary and others participated.
