K K Rema to contest from Vadakara
KOZHIKODE: K.K. Rema, wife of slain leader T.P Chandrasekharan and Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP) state committee member, will contest from Vadakara Assembly seat. Sources in the RMP confirmed this to DC, a day before the party officially announces its candidates on Friday.
RMP state secretary N. Venu said that the party would contest in 60 seats as a part of the left alliance which comprises splinter parties, including SUCI and Marxist Communist Party of India (MCPI).
Rema’s candidature would make the battlefront in Vadakara a keenly watched one. C.K Nanu of JD (U) is the sitting MLA in Vadakara and he is likely to be the LDF candidate this time too. This is the first assembly election RMP is contesting after the murder of T.P Chandrasekharan on May 4, 2012.
Sources said that Rema personally was not interested in contesting but she bowed to the party demand which was according to the feelings of a majority of party workers in Onchiyam and Vadakara. The party was unanimous in deciding not to take the support of UDF in any constituency.
RMP will also support independent candidate I.V Babu, son of late I.V Das, CPM state committee member, if he is contesting against Pinarayi Vijayan in Dharmadam.
