In Holenarasipur, the poll battle gets dirty, bitter
HASSAN: The war of words between Congress candidate Manje Gowda and his rival and former minister H. D. Revanna touched a new low during campaign in Holenarasipur constituency on Monday.
While addressing the media a couple of days ago, Mr Revanna recalled an acid attack on Manjegowda at a check post when he was serving in transport department. The acid attack issue evoked response from Mr Manje Gowda who on Monday reminded Mr Revanna of the acid attack on his wife Mrs Bhavani Revanna at Haradanahalli in Holenarasipur many years ago.
Mr Manje Gowda admitted that he came under acid attack but he wanted to know from Mr Revanna “Why Bhavani was attacked with acid?” he asked.
He threatened to file defamation suit against Mr Revanna if he continued to level false and baseless allegations.
Targetting Mr Revanna, he said, a couple of days back, a minority community person in Holenarasipur Assembly seat was attacked and his mobile phone was snatched allegedly by JDS workers.
Besides, JDS workers attacked and hurled stones on Sunday night on a car belonging to Congress Zilla Panchayat member Shreyas Patel at A. Kalenahally in Channarayapatna taluk but falling under Holenarsipur seat.
He also accused JDS workers of carrying out attack on the house of a Congress worker and wanted Election Commission of India (ECI) to install surveillance cameras at all 317 polling booths in the seat and deploy adequate security measures to hold free and fair elections.
"Let ECI declare all the polling booths in Holenarsopura seat as sensitive booths," he demanded.
Mr Manje Gowda said JDS workers have turned into goondas and a sense of fear existed in the mind of voters and he too feared attack by JD (S) workers.
