Telangana Mahila Congress blames Modi for arrest of women wrestlers
HYDERABAD: For a government which gave the slogan of Beti Bachao Beti Padao, why is it not taking action against the Wrestling Federation of India chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the Telangana Mahila Congress asked on Thursday.
“The value BJP gives to women is evident from the way they are protecting their MP. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah should be blamed for this. We will stand by the wrestlers till they get justice,” Telangana Mahila Congress president Sunitha Rao said.
“Crimes against women are more in BJP-ruled states. They are being perpetrated by their own MLAs and MPs,” Sunitha Rao said, adding that Union Minister of State for external affairs Meenakshi Lekhi ran away from mediapersons when asked about Brij Bhushan.
“When women wrestlers said they would immerse their medals in the Ganga, Brij Bhushan said the medals could be bought for ₹15. Modi has not uttered a single word on the issue. This is an insult to the women who brought laurels to the country,” Sunitha Rao said.
