Jayalalithaa hands over Rs 1 crore cheque to slain constable family
Chennai: Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on Thursday met the family of constable Munusamy, who died while fighting criminals in Krishnagiri early this month, and handed over the cheque for Rs 1 crore from the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund.
Ms Jayalalithaa also handed over a government order stating that the educational expenses of Rakshana, the daughter of the slain constable, will be borne by the state government. Ms Rakshana has secured MBBS at the Madurai Medical College.
The Chief Minister had on June 16 announced that a relief of Rs 5 lakh will be awarded to the family of the slain cop but later revised the amount to Rs 1 crore on June 20 in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, stating that the money announced earlier would not be enough. Mr Munusamy died while fighting chain snatchers in Krishnagiri district on June 15.
