Pondicherry activist Balamohan gets death threat
Puducherry: Activist AH. Balamohan of Alliance for Good Governance (AGG), a coalition of various non-governmental organisations in Puducherry, was allegedly threatened with death by a group of people on Thursday morning.
This comes a day after Puducherry Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy lashed out against people 'claiming to be protectors of the environment' for moving to National Green Tribunal (NGT) against the government on the ongoing beach nourishment and port development project and blamed them for blocking all development projects in the Union Territory.
Around 100 fishermen along with two of their leaders came to the house of Balamohan at Solai Nagar near Muthialpet here around 10.30 in the morning and threatened to 'finish him off' and his family for blocking the port development project which would affect the livelihood of fishermen community.
AGG had moved the NGT seeking directions to the Puducherry Government to ensure that 3 lakh cubic metres of sand are dredged as per the guidelines of National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Hudco, and State Environment Impact Assessment Authority. Recently the organisation had filed contempt plea in the NGT regarding the same issue.
"We were working for the beach nourishment project for the past several years and did many things for the project. We would like to ask what Narayanasamy did for the project while he was the Union Minister?" he said.
AGG organised a protest in front of the head post office to contempt the incident and seeking actions against those who involved in the incident. Mr Balamohan filed a complaint in the Muthialpet police station here.
