VIJAYAWADA: Even as several Telugu Desam leaders and activists are being booked by the police in various cases across the state, the party leadership claims political vendetta.
Telugu Desam senior leader and Assembly former Speaker Kodela Siva Prasada Rao and his family members, including son and daughter, were booked in several cases pertaining to lifting of furniture from the Assembly in Hyderabad and furnishing an automobile showroom belonging to his son.
He even approached the court seeking directions to the Assembly authorities to collect the furniture.
Mr Rao also wanted to pay the money for the furniture as he had used it, if the state government wanted him to do so.
TD senior leader Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy was booked on charges of cheating with forged documents in a land deal. TD leader Yarapataneni Srinivas was booked on charges of illegal mining of limestone in Palnadu area while Chintamaneni Prabhakar was booked on charges of caste abuse.
TD leader Kuna Ravi Kumar was booked on charges of abusing a government official at Amudalavalasa of Srikakulam district.
Though the TD leaders and activists were booked by the police on various charges, the TD leaders alleged that the YSR Congress government was trying to intimidate them to ensure that their voice against the failures of the government is suppressed.
TD politburo member K. Atchannaidu said, “Our party leaders and activists are being implicated in false cases by the police at the behest of the YSRC leaders. Except for one or two cases, a majority of the cases were booked earlier and the police is acting only now. We are going to meet shortly and chalk out an action plan as to how to counter the YSRC onslaught. Unless we do so, it will be difficult to control the YSRC targeting us.”
TD state general secretary and MLA from Rajahmundry Rural Gorantla Butchaiah Choudhary said, “Police is booking our leaders and activists even in some personal and family issues only to trouble them. It is quite evident that when we tried to raise our voice against the failures of the state government in the recently held Assembly sessions, three MLAs were suspended. The YSRC government is becoming intolerant towards us. But people are vexed with it for its inconsistency on various issues.”
