Candidates focusing on women voters; their number high in several constituencies
Adilabad: Political parties are focusing on women voters since their numbers are high in the Adilabad, Boath, Khanapur, Nirmal and Mudhole assembly constituencies, out of the total 10, in the erstwhile Adilabad district.
Candidates of the BRS, Congress and BJP are visiting villages and encouraging more women to join their parties.
Minister Indrakaran Reddy and BJP candidate Aleti Maheshwar Reddy are actively wooing women votes in the Nirmal assembly constituency. Indrakaran highlights the schemes that benefited women, such as the Kalyana Lakshmi, Shaadi Mubarak, KCR Kits and KCR Nutrition Kit. Maheshwar highlights the central government’s introduction of new law reserving 33 per cent seats for women in the assemblies and parliament.
Congress candidates are highlighting the Mahalakshmi scheme, including the promises of Rs 2,500 financial assistance and free travel for women in RTC and supply of LPG cylinders for Rs 500.
Leaders are active meeting women voters in villages. It is noted that women's participation is high in agriculture operations, taking the crops to markets and selling them in the Nirmal assembly constituency.
According to official data, as per the electors in the SSR-2023 final electoral roll published on Jan 5 last, women voters are higher in numbers compared to males in four assembly constituencies -- Adilabad, Boath, Khanapur Nirmal and Mudhole assembly constituencies.
However, the difference between male and female voters is not much in the four assembly constituencies in the erstwhile Adilabad. The maximum difference is 5000.
There are a total of 1.22 lakh voters. Among them, nearly 62,000 are women voters. The number of male voters is some 1,000 to 2,000 less than that of women in Adilabad municipality.
Recently, a large number of women from Sonapur Thanda of Sarangapur mandal and women from Mallapur and Machapur of Laxmanchanda mandal have joined the BJP in the presence of Aleti Maheshwar Reddy in the Nirmal.
BRS candidate Jogu Ramanna of Adilabad is also focusing special attention on women voters.
Aleti Maheshwar said BJP brought in 30 per cent reservations for women in the electoral bodies and this will go a long way in their empowerment.
