Purandeswari alleges Rs 2,000 crore sand mining scam in AP

She alleged that the state government was ignoring all norms prescribed by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) for sand mining

Vijayawada: BJP leader Daggubati Purandeswari alleged on Tuesday that irregularities worth Rs 2,000 crore had taken place in sand mining and sale in Andhra Pradesh in the last 16 months.

Speaking to the media at the party office here, Purandeswari said that the state government had entrusted the task of sand mining and sale to a Delhi-based firm called Jaypee Group, which in turn subleased the contract to a Vijayawada-based firm called Turnkey Enterprises.

She alleged that the state government was ignoring all norms prescribed by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) for sand mining. This had resulted in an increase in the cost of sand, which was affecting the construction industry and causing its workers to lose their jobs.

Purandeswari vowed to continue to fight on the issue.
