Avadi: Lashing out at DMK chief M. Karunanidhi, People’s Welfare Alliance coordinator and MDMK general secretary Vaiko on Tuesday demanded to know why he wants to become chief minister again at the age of 93.
Raising the question at the PWA’s third phase of election campaign at Avadi here, Mr Vaiko said, “While addressing a public meeting in 1970 at Tiruchy, Karunanidhi wondered why 67-year-old Kamarajar was desperate to become chief minister again.” The MDMK leader said he knew much more about Mr Karunanidhi as he had worked closely with him for 29 years. “In run up to the polls, I will reveal more about him,” he said.
Obviously referring to Dr Anbumani’s recent PMK rally where he wore a lapel microphone like in a TV chat show and avoided the customary public address system, Vaiko said, “Some people are imitating (US President) Obama”.
The crowd cheered when Vaiko walked up and down the stage pretending to communicate through a lapel mike. VCK chief Thol. Thirumavalavan too referred to Dr Anbumani imitating Obama, and said one need not copy Obama “at the time of our elections” by even copying Obama’s book title as his own advertisement slogan focussing on ‘change for the better’.
