Police closely watching supporters of ex-IPS officer R. S. Praveen
ADILABAD: Police personnel of various wings are keeping a close watch on government employees attending programmes of retired IPS officer R. S. Praveen Kumar, who is likely to join the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
Police are specially focusing on employees within old Adilabad district, since, after taking voluntary retirement, the IPS officer has addressed two meetings here, the last one being in Jannaram of Mancherial district on July 31.
Surveillance of those attending Praveen Kumar’s meetings has come as a surprise. Under particular focus are members of Swaeros (Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society, a brainchild of the former IPS officer) and SSU (Swaeros Students’ Union).
Government employees who have attended Praveen Kumar’s programmes say they are getting calls inquiring about their whereabouts and details of their job. Police are also seeking from them details of people planning to attend the Nalgonda meeting on August 8, when the IPS officer is expected to join the BSP.
In a bid to widen their intelligence network, police personnel are stated to have joined WhatsApp groups of Swaeros under fake names. Their bid is to know people who are actively associated with Praveen Kumar, chairman of Swaeros.
It is said there are 14 affiliated wings Swaeros organisation. Police are closely watching activities of all these wings too.
Sources say the IPS officer may resign from Swaeros network before joining the BSP.
