HYDERABAD: In the wake of the defiant stance by Munugode MLA Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy who is most likely to join the BJP this month, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) summoned former minister K. Jana Reddy and a host of other senior leaders to Delhi and pondered over ways and means to resolve the matter by either discussing with the disgruntled MLA or, in the worst case, preparing for a byelection.
With Jana Reddy’s involvement, it is said that this will be the last resort to settle the matter. In the next couple of days, the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) leaders in general and erstwhile Nalgonda district leaders in particular will be reaching a decision, keeping in mind the future of the party in Munugode, which is considered to be a fortress of Congress till now.
Monday’s meeting which was held at the residence of AICC general secretary K. C. Venugopal discussed the political upheaval created by the Munugode MLA.
This meeting comes within a week of the last meeting chaired by Venugopal with top leaders. The evening meeting was attended by AICC TS in-charge Manickam Tagore, MPs N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, A. Revanth Reddy and brother of Rajgopal, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, apart from Jana Reddy.
“The crucial meeting discussed in depth the Congress’ prospects in Telangana. As part of this, there was serious discussion about the future of the Munugode Assembly constituency. We shall come up with a plan of action within two or three days,” said Bhatti, while briefing the media after the meeting.
