Chandrababu Slams Government for not Focusing on Irrigation
KURNOOL: TD chief N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday accused the state government of allotting a measly ₹2,000 crore to irrigation in Rayalaseema while the TD government had spent a substantial ₹12,400 crore in the region.
Taking out a roadshow in Nandikotkur of Nandyal district as part of his visits to irrigation projects in Rayalaseema, he accused Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy of taking credit for projects that lack proper water supply.
Naidu asserted that he had initiated crucial irrigation projects like Telugu Ganga, Handri Neeva, Muchumarri, and SRBC in Rayalaseema. He criticised the state government for halting projects like Raghavendra, Siddhapuram, Gundrevula, Vedavati, Velugodu, and Banakacherla. He pointed out that while his government's total irrigation expenditure had been ₹68,000 crore, YSRC regime had spent only ₹22,000 crore on irrigation.
The former chief minister questioned the efficacy of three capitals plan. He expressed doubts about Jagan Mohan Reddy’s ability to manage such a complex initiative, when he cannot even fill potholes on roads. He described Jagan Mohan Reddy as “sticker” Chief Minister, who takes credit for projects and initiatives of the previous government.
On Alaganur Reservoir, Chandrababu Naidu said his government had sanctioned ₹110 crore to supply drinking water to Nandikotkur. He criticised lack of progress on it during last four and a half year’s tenure of YSRC government.
The opposition leader assured people that he would control pricing and quality of liquor. He promised to reduce prices and eliminate substandard products. He emphasised on the potential of solar, wind and pumped power to generate electricity in the state, indicating that such efforts could prevent the need for increasing electricity charges.
The TD chief reiterated the Super Six assurances that his party's manifesto announced during its Mahanadu, including securing the future of women, farmers and youth in the state. He visited Banakacherla project and interacted with the local leaders on its progress.
YSRC leaders expressed their protest against Chandrababu Naidu’s visit by garlanding his flexi banners with chappals at Birla Centre in Kurnool city. Zilla Grandhalaya Samstha chairman Subhash Chandra Bose said people from all sections of the state are happy with Jagan Mohan Reddy's governance. Leaders of SC and BC cells were present at YSRC’s protests.
