Husbands of women panchayats barred from official events
KARIMNAGAR: A circular released by the CEO of Peddapalli Zilla Parishad, disallowing the participation of husbands and relatives of elected women public representatives in official programmes and administrative activities has created a sensation.
It is learnt, however, that a higher authority issued the circular to Panchayat Raj institutions across the state.
Peddapalli Zilla Parishad CEO Srinivas released the circular under Panchayat Raj section 37(5) Act-2018 urging the husbands and relatives of the public representatives not to interfere in the administrative activities. They have also been advised not to participate in the official programmes of their wives/spouses. “Any violation of the instruction would lead to the filing of criminal cases against the rule-violators,” he stressed.
The circular said, in specific, that if husbands and other relatives of women public representatives are seen supervising or involving themselves in the contract works of the government, people may take their photos and send them to the concerned mandal-level or district-level officers for immediate action against them.
Husbands and sons of women public representatives used to participate in several official programmes and even entered their offices to chair official meetings. They even threatened the higher authorities by virtue of their political clout and connections.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, CEO Srinivas said, “We just forwarded a circular that was released by the Commissioner of Panchayat Raj department Raghunandan Rao. It directed all district collectors not to entertain the interference of spouses or relatives of elected representatives in the official meetings.”
It also warned of criminal cases against those who violate the order, he added.
