Sridhar Babu urges HC to quash FIR against him
Hyderabad: Sitting MLA and Congress candidate for the Manthani Assembly seat, Dudhilla Sridhar Babu, approached the Telangana High Court seeking that the FIR filed against him be quashed. He is accused of making a derogatory video against BRS candidate Putta Madhu.
The FIR has been registered in Manthani police station against only Sridhar Babu on charges of indulging in corrupt practices and spreading rumours with a derogatory video against his opponent.
The video allegedly portrays Madhukar as a "rowdy and anarchist" involved in a murder case. The complainant contended that Babu aimed to tarnish his image in order to gain votes in the upcoming elections. The video was reportedly shared on social media platforms, further exacerbating the situation.
The Congress leader urged the court to stay further proceedings in the case as the police were trying to arrest him.
In his quash petition, he vehemently denied any involvement in the video. He asserted that upon reviewing the video, it became clear that he never uttered the derogatory statements attributed to him in the complaint. He stated that the entire episode was part of a calculated strategy devised by Madhukar, who chose to use R. Raghu Prasad, an alleged henchman, as a tool to tarnish his image to dent his prospects in the ensuing elections.
