BJP pins hopes on erstwhile Adilabad district

Adilabad: Amid the triangular contest, the BJP is pinning a lot of hopes in the Assembly constituencies that come under the erstwhile Adilabad district as far as winning more seats in north Telangana.

However, the BJP’s vote share is expected to see a steep rise in this election with the party candidates, who gave a tough fight to their opponents, are confident of emerging as winners or securing second place in many seats in the district.

It is said that bordering Maharashtra's BJP Hindutva politics influenced the Mudhole, Adilabad, Nirmal and Sirpur (T) constituencies which share the borders with Maharashtra.

The party claims that its candidates Aleti Maheshwar Reddy from Nirmal, Ramarao Patel from Mudhole, Payal Shankar from Adilabad, Palvai Harish Baby from Sirpur (T), Soyam Bapu Rao from Boath and Rathod Ramesh from Khanapur will win their seats.

Voters from north India including the workers at SPM Factory are high in numbers in the Sirpur (T) constituency, who incline to the Hindu ideology and BJP politics.

Against this backdrop, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath campaigned to bag their vote bank by promising a resolution to the problems their families were facing in UP.

In the 2018 elections, Payal Shankar of the BJP got 47,444 votes and stood second in Adilabad while Rama Devi of the BJP got 40,602 votes from Mudhole and secured second place while Swarna Reddy got 16,900 votes and got third place from Nirmal constituency.

BJP’s Satla Ashok secured 23,556 votes in Khanapur with the support of Adivasis while Palvai Harish Babu of Congress got 59,052 votes in Sirpur (T) in 2018. This time, Harish Babu contested on a BJP ticket.

As per the 2011 Census, there is a 4.9 lakhs of tribal population out total of 27 lakh population in the erstwhile Adilabad district. Of them, 2.25 lakh are of Adivasis and Lambadas are 1.25 lakh.
