TD to move on despite no special status for AP
VIJAYAWADA: TD after observing the results of Rajasthan elections strongly believes that BJP needs TD alliance for 2019 elections as it believes that BJP might not fetch the expected majority like in 2014 elections. A TD senior minister shared elaborative discussions are happening to identify the pro and cons, of moving far from the BJP alliance. “We are in second thought about the BJP alliance post polls what with the Rajasthan election results but we have decided to wait for a while.”
The Chief Minister Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu who acted as NDA convener during 1999-2004, played a key role not only in the state’s development but also in national politics. But he is now facing a tough time in the same NDA.
Despite being a key partner in NDA it had taken one and half year for him to get a one to one meeting’s appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Mr Naidu who had high expectations on the new born state with NDA alliance is heavily disappointed with the Union Budget.
The Centre denied special category status to the state and announced special assistance measures which it has not effectively implemented. Support in revenue deficit, capital construction and railway zone were expected but in vain.
At this juncture the Rajasthan polls results have given some respite for TD. The Congress winning three sitting seats of two Lok Sabha and one Assembly seat against BJP has given some respite to the TD.
The BJP won with a narrow edge even in Gujarat elections. The same situation may prevail across the nation in 2019 elections, TD fears. A senior TD leader shared that they are bearing the disappointment and moving forward as they have a chance to protect the state’s interests.
