Congress approaches DGP against BJP's Congress files'

HYDERABAD: Alleging that BJP was bent on tarnishing the image of its leaders, Congress leaders lodged a complaint with the Director General of Police seeking his intervention.

Referring to the ‘false’ posts on the Twitter handle BJP, they urged the DGP to direct the police to file a criminal defamation case against the BJP handle and its administrators, under relevant sections of the IPC and IT Act.

A team of Congress leaders, led by PCC senior vice-president Mallu Ravi, visited the DGP office on Monday.

“BPJ's official handle on Twitter (@BJP4india) has posted a video from this handle titled ‘Congress Files’, which discredits and besmirches the Congress party and its leadership focusing on the time the Congress was in power at the Centre,” they said.

They said that the video tried to highlight the alleged 2G and coal scams wherein there are clear court judgments that there is no substantial proof of either of them. A JPC was formed in 2017 to look into the 2G scam and a special CBI court acquitted all the accused. As regards the coal scam, the prosecution had failed miserably to establish intent as observed by a special court, they pointed out.

“False information and baseless allegations are being spread by the BJP
about Congress and its leaders on social media. Let's not fall for fake news and such propaganda tactics,” said PCC vice-president Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy.

Deccan Chronicle tried to locate the tweet but it was deleted.
