Gudur Cccuses BRS Govt of Failure to Protect Farmers
HYDERABAD: BJP state executive member Gudur Narayana Reddy on Sunday expressed deep anguish over farmers continuing to die by suicide in Telangana, and accused the BRS government of failing to prevent them. He said three farmers from Medak and Nirmal districts had died by suicide on Saturday.
He said, “Not a day has passed in the state in the last 10 years without the news of farmers taking the extreme step.” The BJP leader said that nearly 7,000 farmers had taken their lives in the past ten years due to financial problems. This year, nearly 100 farmers had committed suicide.
“The state government did not implement the Centre's Fasal Bima Yojana, which insulates farmers from crop failure. Several other schemes being launched by the Centre for the benefit of the farmers are also not implemented in the state,” he said.
