TPCC election panel to short-list names of aspirants

AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi, who is looking after Telangana party affairs, is keen on accommodating more women candidates

Adilabad: The 26-member TPCC election committee, led by president A. Revanth Reddy, will play a crucial role in the selection of candidates in the 119 Assembly constituencies when the state goes to polls.

Each of the 26 members will select one applicant from every Assembly constituency. Names of candidates who get the support of the highest number of members in the political affairs committee will be sent to the screening committee.

Presently many senior leaders, who applied for the party ticket, are meeting the election committee members and explaining about their seniority and contributions to the party besides their community.

It is learnt that some candidates who applied under the women or BC quota have been urging the political affairs committee to implement the party’s Udaipur declaration.

News is that involving members of the election committee directly in the initial selection process of the candidates will ensure transparency and leaves no scope for the hegemony of some leaders.

Reportedly, AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi, who is looking after Telangana party affairs, is keen on accommodating more women candidates, especially those winning prospects.

AICC national coordinator for SC, ST, OBC and minority wings, Koppula Raju is keeping an eye on the selection of candidates in the reserved constituencies.

The party high command is focusing on reserved constituencies following their successes in reserved seats in Karnataka.

A senior Congress ticket hopeful from Adilabad ticket hoped that genuine senior leaders will be given their due and social justice will prevail in the selection process.

‘There will not be any scope for a single leader to influence the selection of candidates at the early stages’, he said.
