Telugu Desam works to edge out YSRC in its bastion
Hyderabad: The TD has claimed that truce between factions of defected YSR Congress MLA Adinarayana Reddy and former minister P. Ramasubba Reddy in Jam-malamadugu on Tuesday is the first victory towards their larger goal of strengthening the party in the district. This is part of the TD strategy to weaken Opposition YSRC in its bastion, YSR Kadapa district.
TD minister and Kadapa in-charge Mr Ganta Srin-ivasa Rao said: “Leaders Adinarayana Reddy and Ramasubba Reddy have joined hands to work for the party. With both of them together we are assured of one lakh majority and it would be a one-sided election. We are also working on other constituencies and trying to strike peace between factions.”
He added: “We are confident to bag the Kadapa MP seat.” When asked about efforts to polarise the Balija community votes, he said: “The Balija community has been with the TD. With the Kapu Corporation giving loans and sending youth to foreign countries for education, a positive atmosphere has been created. The BCs are also with our party.”
However, the YSRC said the Congress resorted to similar tactics in 2011, but failed to win byelections. The YSRC opined if Pawan Kalyan contests separately, the Balija votes would not go to the TD.
Rayachoti YSR Congress MLA G. Srikanth Reddy said: “Ground realities are different from what the TD is dreaming about Kadapa district. They are only doing political efforts without actual development. What-ever development happened in Kadapa district, including Rayalaseem Thermal Power Plant expansion, Gandikota reservoir, Galeru Nagari, other minor and major irrigation projects; those took place in YSR regime. The TD government has neglected Kadapa totally. Though land has been acquired for SEZ, there is no development in Kadapa district. The airport is not functional.”
