TD to use GPS cameras to watch ward volunteers in Nellore polls

Photos of volunteers misusing authority could be taken and produced before election authorities for taking action against such volunteers

NELLORE: TD leaders are planning to use GPS-based cameras to capture pictures of ward volunteers campaigning on behalf of ruling YSR Congress candidates in the ensuing elections to Nellore civic body.

TD’s contesting candidates and party cadres have been asked to download the GPS Camera app from Google Playstore on their mobile phones. Photos of volunteers misusing their authority could be taken and produced before election authorities for taking action against such volunteers.

These pictures will contain exact time with seconds, details of the place, apart from latitude and longitude of the location. TD leadership believe such pictures will be authentic proof for election authorities to initiate action.

Advising party cadres to download the app immediately, TD parliamentary party constituency in-charge Sk. Abdul Aziz alleged that YSRC Nellore city leaders are using police and officials to trouble and prevent TD nominees from entering fray in Nellore municipal polls.

Speaking to this correspondent, TD national general secretary Beeda Ravichandra accused ruling party leaders of threatening TD candidates and forcing them to withdraw from the contest. “Four to five of our candidates have pulled out of the contest after YSRC leaders warned them,” Ravichandra alleged.

Meanwhile, Nellore superintendent of police Ch. Vijaya Rao asked voters to report any anti-social activity, including distribution of cash and liquor, in ensuing elections for Nellore Municipal Corporation and Buchireddypalem Nagara Panchayat, apart from by-elections to a few panchayats and mandals in Nellore district.

Addressing media here on Tuesday, the SP said they are keeping a tab on rowdy sheeters, particularly in problematic wards and polling stations. Additional forces will be deployed to prevent any untoward incidents. Vijaya Rao also interacted with representatives of various political parties in connection with the polls.
