BJP-Jana Sena alliance continues to draw flak

Pallapu quits, joins BRS Cadre not to work for Sena candidates

Hyderabad: The alliance between the BJP and the Jana Sena continues to create ripples in the former with the second list of the party leaving some of the seats vacant to, in a way, confirm the alliance. This is leading to the cadre from the districts thronging the party’s state headquarters here.

The cadre from Nagarkurnool sat on the footsteps of the party office. They were spearheaded by Dileepa Chary, Nagarkurnool constituency in-charge, who said,

“We have come to express our displeasure. We have participated in all programmes. We have been fighting against the local MLA Marri Janardhan Reddy and his illegal sand business. To continue this fight we need to contest under our flag. Why is Jana Sena, which has no standing here, being allotted seats? If this is beneficial to the party, then the leadership should spell it out.”

Stating that they had a network at all levels, Chary said, “Will the Jana Sena stand by us after they are given seats? Senior leaders are hesitant to enter the electoral fray. But we are ready to contest. Why are we not being allowed to contest? Our national president J.P. Nadda had praised us. We are not prepared to work for Jana Sena.”

Speculations that Serilingampally and Kukatpally seats are going to Jana Sena has caused deeper concern.

“The alliance decision is being taken by the national leadership. We have to abide by the decision. Jana Sena should be asked to lend outside support. Our opinion is that the alliance will be a suicidal move for the state BJP. We will stage a hunger strike opposite the BJP office in Kukatpally on Friday,” said Dr. M. Kiran, district secretary Medchal Urban, Kukatpally.

The Jana Sena seeking seats in pockets with many Andhra natives, which the BJP also counts as its stronghold, is causing heartburn.

Medchal district president Pannala Harish Reddy is also opposed to the idea of an alliance and is said to have expressed his opposition to the leadership.

Pallapu Govardhan resigns

Meanwhile, in a setback to the BJP, Pallapu Govardhan, who aspired to contest from Khairatabad, resigned from the party and joined the BRS in the presence of ministers K.T. Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao. He will join the party at the Telangana Bhavan on Friday.

The BJP allocated the seat to Chintala Ramachandra Reddy, who represented the constituency earlier, in its first list.
