Poll campaign heats up in old Karimnagar
Karimnagar: With the nomination process beginning on Friday and many key leaders from all three major political parties contesting from their respective constituencies in the upcoming Assembly elections, the political atmosphere in the former Karimnagar district's 13 Assembly segments was heated up.
IT Minister K.T. Rama Rao of Sircilla, backward class welfare minister Gangula Kamalakar of Karimnagar, and welfare minister Koppula Eshwar of Dharmapuri seats, all of whom represent the erstwhile Karimnagar district, will run in the upcoming Assembly elections.
Along with all sitting BRS MLAs in the remaining 10 Assembly segments, except Vemulawada, where sitting MLA Chennamneni Ramesh Babu was replaced by Chalmeda Laxminarasimha Rao, and Korutla, where sitting MLA Kalvakuntal Vidhya Sagar Rao was replaced by his son Dr Sanjay.
Whereas from the BJP, key leaders such as national general secretary and Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar will face minister Gangula Kamalakar from Karimnagar constituency, BJP joining committee chairman and Huzurabad sitting MLA Etala Rajendar will face MLC Padi Koushik Reddy in Huzurabad, and Nizamabad MP Dharmapuri Aravind will contest from Korutla Assembly segment and will face Dr Sanjay.
The BJP has yet to release the names of candidates for three of the 13 Assembly segments in the former Karimnagar district, namely Vemulawada, Husnabad, and Peddapalli. The prominent leaders of the Congress, including sitting MLA D. Sridhar Babu from Manthani, MLC T. Jeevan Reddy from Jagtial, and former MP Ponnam Prabhakar from Husnabad, will run in the upcoming Assembly elections. The names of the candidates for the Karimnagar and Sircilla Assembly segments have yet to be announced by the Congress.
