Porngate: BJP demands Karnataka education minister Tanveer Sait's resignation
Belagavi: The proceedings in the Legislative Assembly were stalled when the opposition BJP sought the resignation of Primary and Secondary Education Minister Mr Tanvir Sait over allegedly watching porn during Tipu Jayanti celebrations.
When the government tried to defend Mr Sait, the BJP members resorted to a protest in the well of the House.
The house was then adjourned for some time. When the house resumed, BJP members continued their protest and Mr Kimmane Ratnakar, who was in the chair adjourned the House for the day.
The issue was raised after the debate on the House Committee report on NICE. Opposition leader Mr Jagadish Shettar said that the government had handed over the issue to CID, which was trying to give clean chit to Mr Sait. He demanded the resignation of the minister on moral grounds.
Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mr T.B. Jayachandra tried to defend Mr Sait and said that the BJP was politicising the issue. When in power, BJP celebrated Tipu Jayanti and now, they were observing black day, he remarked.
Irked by the remarks, BJP members stormed the well of the House and started protesting. When nothing could be heard amid the noisy scenes, the Speaker adjourned the House for 10 minutes. When the House resumed proceedings, the situation did not improve forcing an adjournment for the day.
