At 43, Reddy Community Commands Majority Representation in Assembly

HYDERABAD: An analysis of the Telangana Legislative Assembly election results declared on Sunday showed that the electorate voted in 43 legislators from the Reddy community, higher than the 40 in the 2018 elections and 42 in the 2014 edition.

This was the highest number of legislators from a single community.

Down the line were backward classes and scheduled castes, with 19 legislators each from the two groups set to form a part of the new Assembly. However, the number of BC legislators fell from 22 in 2018 and 20 in 2014.

Among the 19 MLAs from BCs, four are from the Goud community, three are from the Munnuru Kapu community, two are from the Padmashali community, and one each from the Rajika, Gangaputra, Bondhili, Mudhiraj, Lodha, Arya Marati (Kshatriya), Yadav, Kurma, Perika and Vanjara communities.

The number of SC legislators remained unchanged as they were from the reserved seats. Similarly, MLAs from scheduled tribes also remained at 12.

The impact of the Congress’ SC/ST Declaration, released by AICC chief Mallikarjun Kharge, paid rich dividend, as the party accounted for 14 of the 19 SC legislators, and also nine of 12 ST legislators, with BRS accounting for three.

The Congress winners from the SC-reserved category include Gaddam Vinod, Gaddam Vivekanand, Adluri Laxman Kumar, Medipally Satyam, Dr K. Satyanarayana, Gaddam Prasad Kumar, Dr Ch Vamshi Krishna, Mandala Samel, Vemula Veeresham, K.R. Nagaraju, Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Matta Ragamayee, Laxmikantha Rao Thota and C. Damodara Rajanarsimha.

The BRS’ SC winners are K. Manik Rao, Kale Yadaiah, Vijayudu, Kadiam Srihari and Lasya Nandita.

The Congress winners from the ST-reserved category include Vedma Bhojju, Balu Naik Nenavath, J. Chander Naik, Dr Murali Naik Bhukya, Dansari Anasuya (Seethakka), Payam Venkateswarlu, Koram Kanakaiah, Ramdas Malathu and Adinarayan Jare.

The BRS’ ST representatives are Kova Laxmi, Tellam Venkat Rao and Anil Jadhav.

There are also 13 winners from the Velama community, a rise from 10 and 11 respectively recorded in the 2014 and 2018 election results.

Four members from the Kamma community were elected, including Maganti Gopinath from the Jubilee Hills constituency, where he was leading by 15,000 votes at the time of the report, as the result was pending due to recounting demanded by Congress candidate Md Azharuddin.

One Brahmin and one Vysya community candidate each were also elected, among the Hindu subgroups.

While AIMIM is set to send seven Muslim minority leaders to the House, none of the four Muslim candidates fielded by the Congress and two fielded by the BRS won the elections.
