Christian Community Hails Congress Win

HYDERABAD: The Christian community, by and large, hailed the Congress victory on Sunday with some expressing their resentment at the manner the BRS government had let the community down. The Congress, they said, had always stood for the welfare of their community.

Former MLC Christiana Lazarus said, “We are hoping that the new government will settle all pending issues concerning Christians. It is also time to revamp the Christian Minority Commission.”

P. Rajendran, chairman of the TPCC ex-servicemen wing and former SCB councillor, said, “This is the hard work of TPCC chief A. Revanth Reddy. I took part in the Bharat Jodo Yatra where I saw how desperate people were for a Congress government. We are sure that our community will get their due share of benefits.”

Roydin Roach said, “This is a people's victory. Christians rejected BRS because of unfulfilled promises.” B. Ezekiel, TPCC secretary, said, “The Congress will fulfill the promises it has made in the declaration.”

Jacob Mathew, core committee member, United Peoples Fellowship, said “We welcome the Congress government wholeheartedly. We hope for the completion of the Christian Bhavan, Christian bandhu and Holy land subsidy.”

Fr. Raju Alex, executive secretary of Telangana State Federation of Churches, said, “We are hopeful that the new government will take care of our community's interests.”
