Deceased MLA Candidate Gets 475 Votes
Nizamabad: A candidate who had died by suicide got 475 votes in Nizamabad Urban Assembly constituency on Sunday. The candidate, Yamaganti Kannaiah Goud, a vegetable vendor, had died by suicide on November 19 owing to personal reasons.
Before he died, Goud had filed his nomination papers as a candidate of the Alliance of Democratic Reforms Party. He was allotted ‘chapati maker’ poll symbol by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
After scrutiny and withdrawal, Goud continued to be on the list of candidates as he belonged to a registered party. As a result, his candidature and poll symbol continued in the electronic voting machine (EVM).
The voters might have paid their respects to the candidate, said a close associate of Kannaiah Goud.
