KTR Promises BRS Will Be a Constructive Opposition

HYDERABAD: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao on Sunday congratulated the Congress on its win with a promise that his party will play the role of a constructive opposition, even as he called on his party workers not to lose hope, not to get disheartened, and with a promise that “we will bounce back with twice the strength.”

Addressing a press conference after the final picture emerged in the results, Rama Rao said, “We tried to make Telangana the number 1 in the country and to a large extent succeeded. We were short by around 20 seats, we put up a valiant fight, and we are grateful to people to giving us opportunity to serve them twice.”

He repeatedly urged BRS workers and leaders not to lose hope and called for equanimity in the face of defeat. "Sometimes we win, sometimes we lose, there are only two options in elections," he said.

On the new role that the BRS will play in the Assembly, Rama Rao said, "We understand that they will need to settle down. We will support and cooperate with the new government and will be a constructive opposition because this is the state for which our KCR risked his life.”

To a question on how his party fared, Rama Rao said, “I expressed confidence that we will prove the exit polls wrong, and believed we will get around 70 seats but that did not happen. We are also quite surprised at the results. Had there been a wave, then the results would have been different because we also won from every district. We will figure it out, we will review how this all came about.”

On who would lead the BRS in the Assembly, Rama Rao said that decision will be taken by the BRS Legislature Party later.
