Madhya Pradesh Assembly Poll Results: BJP heads for dominant win, stuns Congress

The BJP had been in power since 2003, barring a 15-month period during December 2018-2020

The BJP has claimed a massive win in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly election. This is despite exit polls predicting a tight race and some even giving the Congress an outside chance of ousting the BJP from a state it has dominated since 2003.

In Madhya Pradesh, many of the exit polls had given a clear edge to the BJP while a few predicted a Congress win too.

The poll results for the 230-seat Madhya Pradesh Assembly will decide the political future of the state's longest serving Chief Minsiter Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his Congress rival Kamal Nath.

In the single-phase voting held on November 17, Madhya Pradesh recorded its highest-ever turnout at 76.22%.

The BJP had been in power since 2003, barring a 15-month period during December 2018-2020.

While Chouhan is banking on his government's women welfare schemes and pro-poor policies, Kamal Nath wants to wrest power from the BJP seizing the anti-incumbency factor, alleged misgovernance and corruption.
